Case Study #2: Small to Large Businesses and Not-For-Profit Organizations
I used the same content development, communications assistance, and copywriting skill set for the following clients that I used in Case Study #1.
Additional components are noted below.
Level Studios
I was called in to assist the Senior Content Strategist and asked to develop a content matrix for a current project. The team had been assembled for some time, were more knowledgeable with the material, and worked in an Agile environment. By jumping in head first, along with the morning meetings that focused on deliverables in a short timeframe (coupled with a very competent and skilled team) I was able to develop a matrix in a demanding timeframe. I also helped assist the Senior UX lead and the Senior Copy lead when needed.
Move.com: The #1 Online Real Estate Website
I successfully completed a contract with Move.com as senior user experience writer for a new product called Mortgage Match.
I helped define brand (voice and tone) and created home page copy, marketing copy, UI copy for three applications, roughly 20 transaction-based emails, and the company's first editorial style guide.
I was brought into this project as senior copywriter after design and IA were completely finalized. There were tight constraints on what could and could not be created. The internal web team was top notch, however, and embraced my skill set and made me feel comfortable. This was a major factor in my success there, and I was able to complete many copy components in a short amount of time.
ClearLocal.com: Providing Small Businesses with Expert SEO
I successfully completed a contract with ClearLocal, Inc. as senior user experience writer and creative director for a new SEM product called ClearLocal.
Working in the Bay Area with the CEO, and with the development team in India, I helped develop a new website under extremely tight deadlines.
I was responsible for defining voice and brand, and ensuring that business goals were incorporated across the website. I helped hone and refine graphic design, with an eye toward user needs and usability factors. Our challenge was to work as quickly as possible to help sales efforts that were underway. In addition, I wrote copious amounts of SEO material myself, and edited work from a small team of freelancers.
Bibliopolis.com
I provided website evaluations for prospective clients of Bibliopolis. I reviewed Bibliopolis’s client websites and develop a report that outlines what is, or is not, working—based on usability factors and best practices.

The California Dentists Guild.org
The content development challenge for this not-for-profit group lay in the complexity of its financial copy. As a full service retirement plan and investment corporation, its goal was to provide value-driven category buckets, create easier navigation, and rewrite all financial information so that it imparted trust while remaining legal according to current regulations.
I accomplished this through iterative reviews with the executive director. Once I defined the category buckets based on what her clients found valuable, I pulled existing copy from the current website and created a solid “shell” (solid first draft) for each bucket.
Each draft incorporated web usability tenets for copy and each draft presented the copy in a visual fashion to mimic the web. In this manner, the client was able to understand the process of creating successful web content, and allowed her to focus on bringing the copy up to date, and legal.
